An Experimental Study on the Geotechnical, Mineralogical, and Swelling Behavior of KPK Expansive Soils

چکیده
Expansive soils are found in numerous regions of the world explicitly arid and semiarid zones. These expand when absorbed moisture shrink released water. Such soil is viewed as a characteristic risk for infrastructures due to swell behavior. become more problematic lightly or moderately loaded structures built on them. The swelling shrinkage these chiefly happen presence montmorillonite minerals. mineralogical behavior foundation playing vital role overall stability structure. parameters often ignored geotechnical report writing stage specifically small projects, which, durability service life facilities reduced maintenance cost increased. To mitigate potential damages constructed expansive soil, it necessary assess characteristics soil. current study aims determine geotechnical, mineralogical, local soils. Based results, Karak has highest plasticity index (PI) 37% with clay fraction 28%, while D.I. Khan least PI 23% 17%. Similarly, Karak’s contained higher percentage (Rp = 8.9%). maximum values pressure, potential, 1D deformation 280 kPa, 12.5%, 1.92 mm 6.45% 150 1.38 10.5%, 245 1.64 Kohat respectively. This concludes that high than increases increase fine fraction. Furthermore, critical khan structures.

Behavior of Flexible Pavements on Expansive Soils
This investigation discusses the findings on analysis results of a pavement structure constructed on a relatively expansive material consisting mainly of brown clayey silt in Tebessa, Algeria. Cores were brought to the laboratory from a piece of roadwork. Remolded samples were taken from subgrade of a deteriorated road. The soils were generally found to be of medium plasticity and of a medium t...
متن کاملGeotechnical Aspects of Light Structures on Expansive Soils
The geotechnical behaviour of expansive clay soils is investigated by looking into the geomorphologic, geological and climatic conditions and mineralogical composition of the soils in the study area. The geotechnical results are linked with the performance of the foundation as well as structures. Since swell potential and swell pressure are key properties of expansive soils, the swell parameter...
متن کاملSwelling Characteristics of Compacted, Expansive Soils
Abstraet-The limitations of existing methods for the prediction of swelling behavior of compacted softs are examined. Both the purely theoretical approach and the purely empirical approach are found to be inadequate. The present study is based on a semi-empirical approach in which a model of swelling behavior is developed leading to equations relating swelling potential or swelling pressure of ...
